Asking a High School Girl on Date: Dos and Don'ts

Are you a high school student who wants to start dating? The first step is asking a girl out on a date. The second step is planning that date. The third step is having it. The most overwhelming step is the first. If you are new to high school dating, you may be excited and nervous as the same time. Don't worry, this is normal. But, to ensure you don't have any embarrassing moments, continue reading on for a list of dos and don'ts for asking a girl on a date. DO ask out that girl you have been eying. Is there a girl in your school you like? If so, what are you waiting for? Ask her out. If you don't, someone else may. DON'T worry about what your friends think. High school is weird. Yes, weird. There is a lot of pressure to fit in, be popular, and have a good reputation. For some, this causes them not to ask out the girl they actually like, but a popular girl instead. So what if the girl you like isn't a cheerleader? Ask her out and don't worry about what others think. DO ask in person. If you are new to dating, you will, as previously stated, be nervous and excited at the same time. This may lead you to ask for a date through email, an instant messaging program, or a text message. As convenient and as less threatening as these options are, don't do it! Instead, ask for a date in person. DON'T have your friends ask for you. Unless you are double dating or going out as a group, never let your friends ask for you. Yes, it is overwhelming to ask a girl for a first date, but do it yourself. With bullying, pranks, and so forth, your girl may wonder if your request is legitimate.

DO let your excitement show. If you are really nervous or excited, you may blush, stutter, or smile when asking a girl on a date. If this happens, don't run and hide. Don't let it bother you. In fact, it may work to your advantage. It shows you really want to date the girl in question. Plus, girls always love it when emotion is expressed from guys. DON'T make it a big show. When asking a girl from school on a date, just do it. You don't have to attach a note to the outside of her locker, send her flowers, or standup on a table in the school cafeteria. As romantic as these approaches sound, they usually backfire. So, don't make it a big show. If you want to ask a girl on a date, just do so in person and preferably in private. DO remember that you may receive a no. Although most teenager girls are willing to try a date, remember that you may receive no as an answer. You shouldn't let this discourage you, but prepare for it. There is nothing more embarrassing than being denied a date. If prepared for it, you can brush yourself off and move on. It really isn't the end of the world. DON'T go overboard with planning. If the girl you ask on a date says yes, you may want to "wow," her. Yes, this is good, but don't go overboard. In most cases, a teenage girl will enjoy a movie. As much as you want to impress your date, leave the prom clothes at home. If you want to plan a nice dinner, opt for a casual restaurant, such as Olive Garden. DO know your date likes and dislikes. The best way to plan a perfect date is do something that your date enjoys. If you are unsure, ask. It is not tacky, but rather a smart move. If your date is the active type, she may prefer hiking at a local park, as opposed to going to the movies. If you want more than just a date, but to have a relationship it is important to know her likes and dislikes anyways, so ask!
